When it comes to brand redesign, it’s always a challenging task. Any change from the big name brands catches our attention because it means that something about our shared culture has changed. Let's sit down and talk about who are having successful redesigns.
- Starbucks
Starbuck started its redesign around its 40-year anniversary. This is an important milestone as the brand has achieved so much over the past 40 years.
The wordmark that circles the mermaid is completely gone because the mermaid itself is so recognizable that doesn't need any introduction. Also, the color scheme is changed from a dark green tone to a lighter green color that feels warm and welcoming.
2. Olive Garden
The new design is a bit controversial. Some people like it and some don’t. However, in terms of a new design, it’s counted as a big move for this brand.
The old design reminds us of an outdoor sign that actually looks good with the 3D grapes and delicate typography. While the new design is classic and modern. The grapes are replaced by the olive brand that identifies for the maturity of Olive Garden.
3. GoDaddy
The new design combines the letters G and O to form a heart that creates a welcoming feeling and an emotional response to their customers. It also represents a user-center message aim to gain the customer's trust and confidence.
The new font is also less bold and modern compared to the old design.
4. BWM
The iconic black border is replaced by a transparent one. The new logo leans for a flat design style while the color is changing from light blue to darker blue and the font doesn’t have its shadows anymore. To me, the new look is modern, yet luxurious and it looks good on the car.
5. Facebook
Facebook’s old logo had a darker blue background while the small box of light blue was behind the F letter along with the light blue gradient on the top. They removed everything behind the letter F and made the blue background color darker. The new designs achieve a minimalist and elegant look. The letter F is connected to the background means that Facebook connects people and “give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”
6. Morton Salt
When the girl with an umbrella was introduced on a Morton Salt’s blue round package, this iconic girl has grown to serve as a trust mark product for the customers.
In 2014, Morton Salt’s new logo marks its 100th Birthday. The new design slightly cleans up the illustration and makes the iconic girl pop. It preserves the iconic element while emphasizing the raindrops and the pour of salt. I think the girl’s face on the 2014 new logo is friendlier than the previous version with the blue outlines around her face
